Wellness From the Mayo Clinic:
“Wellness coaches can help people identify:
- What they want to change.
- Why they want to make a change.
- What creates the gap between where a person is now and where that person wants to be.
Many people already know what they need to do to change. But figuring out how to implement those changes in everyday life can be challenging.”
“…Wellness coaching (can) help people:
- Create an individualized wellness plan unique to their needs and desires.
- Improve their health metrics.
- Stay healthy and well during life transitions such as changing careers, birth of a child and retirement.
- Find ways to be happy and healthy — without living what they describe as an overly restrictive lifestyle.
- Gain confidence in their ability to take action toward change.
- Get back on track after setbacks.
From the National Board of Certified Health and Wellness Coaches:
“Health & Wellness Coaches… partner with clients looking to enhance their well-being through self-directed lasting changes, aligned with their values. In the course of their work, (they) display unconditional positive regard for their clients and a belief in their ability to change, honoring the fact that each client is an expert on their own life while ensuring that all interactions are respectful and non-judgmental.
(Coaches) work in different settings. Some work on healthcare teams alongside physicians and other allied health professionals as part of an integrative approach to client care. Other (coaches) work in digital health, community-based programs, or entrepreneurial capacities.
(Coaches) train in behavior change theories, motivational strategies, and health education and promotion theories. They use these to support the client in creating and sustaining change for improved health and well-being.”
